The song written by a genius at Tai Wo Ting in the

Tsing Un distict by means of the planchette.

B.

On the night of the 1st of the 7th Moon of this year

all the good and faithful people invited the genius to give

advice on the subject of the inundation, and the genius kindly

attended the altar and wrote as follows.

The King of Tung Liu (i.e. the Manchu Emperor) is

destined to come to an end. Flood, drought and battle is every-

where the same. A bushel of rice will cost a 1,000 cash, the

people are dissatisfied. Subscriptions and contributions are

repeatedly demanded, rendering the people and officials poor.

The people's mind and the intention of Heaven are both alike

this. Everywhere there will be raised rebellion and warfare.

If you wish for peace and a great world you must be clipped in

the favour of the Creator before the world can be enlarged.

Such an opportunity shall occur in the Southern Provinces. And

the place in Kwangtung where the streams meet there shall rise

up a dragon. This dragon will turn the course of the milky way,

to discharge its waters for cleansing this world. Wherever my flag reaches it will top all others in splendour. Since I have

fulfilled the intention of Heaven, men's minds will be obedient.

I give you peace so that you may be successful.

Then the planchette stopped, and as all the good and

faithful men present thought that the meaning was too obscure they requested the genius to give an explanation and the plan-

chette continued to write. The Government is in confusion and

the taxes are heavy. The people cannot endure it. Their dis- content has reached Heaven, Calamities sent by Heaven follow. If you want peace you must wait until the new ruler comes.

When the planchette is still, I am off.
