It will be seen from the

report that the lands involved in

the exchange are to be valued by

an independent surveyor who is to

be appointed by His Excellency the

Governor and yourself conjointly.

Should you unfortunately be unable

to agree as to the gentleman to be

selected for this purpose, it will

be necessary to refer the matter

home for decision: but it is trust-

ed that the necessity for such

action will not arise, as it is

most desirable that the valuation

should be made with the least

possible delay.

It may happen that the

land required from the Colonial

Government exceeds in value the

land surrendered, and in this case

an application for funds, to be

considered in the ordinary way, will

have to be submitted to the War

Office before the acquisition of the

land
