With reference to Colonial Office letter of
W
2nd May 1902, No:17116/02 and in continuation of War Office letter of 23rd May 1902, Hong Kong 8/135, I am
directed by the Secretary of State for War to enclose
for the information of the Secretary of State for the
Colonies a report of the results arrived at by the members
of the interdepartmental conference at which the
Treasury, Colonial Office and War Office were represented,
on the outstanding questions relating to the transfer
of lands at Hong Kong between the Colonial Government
and the War Department.
2.
Mr Brodrick concurs in the proposals contained
in the report, which, it will be noticed, suggests that
concessions should be made both by the Colonial
Government and the War Department: and he trusts that
this compromise will commend itself to Mr Chamberlain
as an equitable and satisfactory settlement of this long
outstanding and vexed question.
3. If Mr Chamberlain also concurs, a letter and
a telegram of which a copy is enclosed will be despatched
Ender Secretary of Stats,
Colonial Office,
