Sir:-
(Res 6 MAY 02) The Members of this Association have read with
pleasure the notification from the Postmaster-General
to the effect that the postage to be prepaid on let-
ters from this country to all places in China where
British Post Offices are maintained will be reduced
to one penny per half ounce on and after May 1st.
The ports named in the notice, which will receive
benefit from this change, are Amoy, Canton, Foochow,
Hankow, Holhow, Liu Kung Tao, Ningpo, Shanghai and
Swatow,
While fully appreciating the value of this re-
duction in postal rates, the Association desire to
ask the attention of His Majesty's Government to the
omission from the list of several considerable cen-
tres of commerce in China, such as Chefoo, Tientsin,
Taku, Niuchuang, &c., and they trust that the same
