Sir:-
I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to
acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 19th
instant on the subject of the firing of salutes by
Foreign war ships in the harbour of Hongkong during
the hours of Divine Service.
Lord Lansdowne does not understand that any
action is at present required by this Department.
Lordship would be glad to learn the views of the

Admiralty in the matter.
