I am informed that the French Post Office in-

tends to charge a reduced postage but cannot vouch

for this. It is however certain that a Post

Office situated in the business quarter on the

Amoy side would interfere seriously with the busi-

ness of the British Post Office which is in the

Consulate on Ku-lang-au.

There is no real

neceanity for a new Post Office as the Customs

Post Office in the British Concession franks mail

letters bearing Chinese stamps by putting on free

of chargo Hong Kong stamps purchased from the

British Post Office.

I shall report further shortly.

I have, &o.,

(Signed)

147 Mansfield.
