With reference to my letter of the 16th August
last respecting the treatment of Chinese criminals
remitted from Hongkong to Cunton, I wn directed by
the Marquess of Lansdowne to transmit to you a copy
of a despatch which has been received from His Ma-
jesty's Minister at Peking on the subject.
Sir E. Satow deale also with the same question
in connection with Wei-Hai-Wei which was referred to
him on the receipt of your letter of August 12th;
and
he states that as satisfactory arrangements have
now been made in both cases, he considers it unneces-
sary as long as these are faithfully adhered to
by the local Chinese authorities, for him to bring
the question before the Central Government at Peking.
