I BEG to inclose herewith copy of my despatch to His Majesty's Minister at Peking, No. 40, Confidential, of the 16th instant, regarding the grant of facilities to British steamers on the West River in respect to additional ports of call which, I now learn, the Commissioner of Custoins at Canton proposes to recommend for acceptance by the Cuinese Governinent.
I beg to add that I just learn that eight additional ports of call are being recom- pended, and that these facilities in regard to passenger traffic will practically meet the equirements of the River Steamer Companies.
