Sir:-
I laid before the Marquess of Lansdowne your
letter of the 3rd instant transmitting a copy of a
letter from the Post Office on the subject of British
Postal Agencies in China.
I am directed by His Lordship to say that he
concurs with Mr. Chamberlain in thinking that the
Treasury might be urged to increase the Imperial
contribution towards the cost of these Agencies.
The improvement in the present, arrangements at
Shanghai appears specially desirable but
ship must leave it to Mr. Chamberlain to decide
His Lord-
whether the present time is opportune for inviting
the Lords Commissioners to augment the grant.
