With reference to your letter of the 11th
October 1901, No. 35233/1901, with enclosure relative to the
application of Messrs J. Swire & Sons for a lease for 999 years of certain land (Marine lot No. 3) at Hongkong now held by them on a 99 years lease for the purpose of construct- ing a Dock; I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you for the information of the Secretary
of State for the Colonies that in November 1900 Messrs Swire
informed My Lords of their intention to construct a Dock
and asked tobe furnished with dimensions and any other par- ticulars which if carried out would render the Dock valuable
for Naval purposes.
2.
A copy of their letter and a copy of Admiralty reply giving the required particulars are enclosed
for your information.
3.
The provision of a Dock of this kind at Hongkong would be of great advantage to the Navy and provided that Messrs Swire & Sons adhere to the dimensions furnished to them, My Lords do not propose to impose any further condi- tions
