I may point out that I am the oldest clerk, as

regards length of service in the Post Office, and to be

classified lower than the 1st Clerk at Shanghai (a compara- tive junior with only a year's service) is I think very

harsh on me.

I trust you will, if necessary, call on the

Acting Postmaster at Shanghai to vouch for the fact that my

work here is more heavy, onerous and responsible than that

of his Chief Clerk at Shanghai, and trust therefore you will

see your way eventually to recommend me to be placed on a

footing of equality with him for which I shall ever be grate-

ful to you for it.
