Under the ola rule, which has certainly been in force

most of 1902 an ungassed cadet drew the whole of his

salary, while acting in an appointment, in addition to

any half pay he could get from the appointment.

now a cadet like Mr Messer acting as Registrar General,

won't do badly drawing half pay as Passed Cadet (1900)

If these cadets have elected for the sterling

scheme, as they have if they are wise, they will get £300

a year when they become Passed Cadets and £350 after

remaining three years in that capacity. (The salary of

Class V of the Ceylon Civil Service, counting exchange
