26th September, 1892.

Sir,

With reference to Your Excellency's letter of the

19th ultimo, No.4389, forwarding a proposed draft of a letter to be written to His Excellency the Governor, conveying the terms,

on which the existing Rifle Ranges should be extended for the use

of the Magazine Rifle, and mutually to satisfy Naval and Military

requirements, I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that

having submitted all the correspondence in question to His Excel-

lency the Commander-in-Chief, he is pleased to approve of the

proposals made, which also meets with my concurrence, and accord-

ingly I request that the proposed draft as worded may be written

to His Excellency the Governor.

2.

I wish respectfully to urge upon Your Excellency,

with the view of its being represented in the proper quarter,

the great necessity that exists for the decision of the Colonial

Authorities being made known to us as speedily as possible, our

plans and estimates will have to be prepared after such decision

is communicated, and forwarded to England for approval, before

the necessary work can be undertaken, and already some 10 months

have elapsed since the question was first started.

I have etc.,

(S4.). H.BURY-PALLISER,

Commodore.
