With reference to your letter No.100/3, dated 24th
June last and subsequent correspondence, I have the honour to
inform Your Excellency that I have in conference with the Commo-
dore carefully considered the demands of the Naval Authorities in
the matter of Rifle Range accommodation as bearing upon Military
requirements and the expectations of the Rifle Association with
the following result:-
A. The Kowloon Peninsula
1. There is no Military objection to permission
being given to the Navy to occupy whether by
lease or otherwise and to improve, as proposed
in the correspondence, the eastern Range sub-
ject to the following conditions:-
(a) The 900 yards firing point to be accepted as
the extreme length and to be moved about 30
yards to the eastward of its present site
to as near the edge of the cliff as possible,
the 800 yards point being moved to correspond.
(b) The right of the Military Authorities to be
reserved
