Police Department,
Captain Superintendent's Office, Hongkong, 39th. June, 1893,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
of your letter No. 1159 of 24th. instant ane enclosure, and in reply have to report:-
In the event of its becomiag necessary to move the Rifle Association to the Police Range, it would be quite practicable to arrange for their having the use of the Police Range at stated times, and I should be glad to do all in my power to assist the Association with which I have been connected from its beginning. During the Winter, when the European and Indian Police are going through their annual course, only a short part of the day could be allowed to the Association.
I regret to say that the exclusive use of the Range on Saturdays could not be given to the Association, unless Government cancel the arrangement entered into long since, by which the use of the Police Range on Saturday afterapons has been given to the Hongkong Volunteers. I think it would be unfair to withdraw this privilege granted to a body who form part of the defensive forces of the Colony, in favour of an Association which however useful their training, still exist for their own anusement, and have undertaken no liabilities to aid the Colony in case of danger.
I have ato.,
(Sa.) A. Gordon,
Captain Superintendent of Police.
