With reference to my telegram of the 11th.
instant, I have the honour to transmit for your consideration
the enclosed copy of a letter from the Principal Civil Medical
Officer, dated the 6th. ultimo, and to inform you that in
view of that letter I requested Dr. Davies to refund to this
Government the cost of his passage money and that of his wife,
as well as the amount paid on his behalf by this Colony in
respect of his attendance at the School of Tropical Medicine,
and then to resign.

Accordingly on the 7th. instant, Dr. Davies
placed his resignation in my hands, but as the Principal Civil
Medical Officer reported that he knew Dr. Davies had not the
money at present to make the required refund of $1,381.33,
have been obliged to forego the attempt to recover that mount.
Dr. Davies' resignation creates a vacancy

of £480 rising to £720 by triennial increments of $40. I at-
