Arthur Counsell, Police Constable No. 23, Water Police Station, Kowloon, Hongkong.
Five Chinese viz:- 1 male about 80 years oli, 1 female about 50, 2 males about 20 and one boy about 18, names and present whereabouts unknown, they belonged to two traling junks, which were broken up by the typhoon, and are believed to have left the Colony.
About 10.80 P.M., 18th. July, 1902, at Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, Hongkong, Depth of Water 7 feet in shallowest part, 10 feet in leepest.
P.: C.. Counsell, taking holl of a length of thick Chinese rattan rope, which was attached to a lerrick to stealy himself, went over the Praya Wall (9 feet 10 inches Jeep) crossel a log of wood 15 to 20 feet long by 2 feet broal, and helpel the 5. persons ashore at great person- al risk, the typhoon being then raging very strongly, and the sea extremely rough. He had also to get them over the wall, He got the first four landel without mishap, but in helping the lai he slipped and lost holl of him and the rope. He recovered both however and got the boy to shore after about 5. minutes immersion,
About 5. minutes for the boy, whom P.C.. Counsell hal to carry about 40 feet, as he was unable to walk, but he recovered in about a
quarter of an hour sufficiently to go with the others, who had sustain- el no injuries.
Nothing. The 5, people went their way and have not since been heard of.
