sir,

With reference to your Despatch No. 164

of the 6th. June last, I have the honour to inform you that

Constables Cook and Wylie have been sent home.

The latter's health broke down and it had been decided

to invalid him shortly before the receipt of your Despatch

above referred to.

2.

The records in the Gaol Printing Depart-

ment show that 50 copies of the conditions of service for

Water Police embodying the 8 hours duty clause were printed

1900

in November, 1900, a few days before the particulars of office

for a Water Police Inspector referred to in the 5th. paragraph

of Sir Henry Blake's Despatch No. 499 of the 17th. November,

1900. Mr. May, who was at the time Captain Superintendent of

Police and Superintendent of the Gaol, states that both forms were printed for the purposes of the requisition for the

Inspector of Water Police and six Constables asked for in that

Despatch, but there is no record in the Colonial Secretary's

Office that the conditions of service for the Constables were

actually forwarded.
