Dear Sir,

+

SHANGHAI,

11th August, 1902.

With reference to the vacant plot of ground in the

rear of the British Post Office, Shanghai, belonging to His

Majesty's Government, and which I understand the Hong Kong Postal Agency desire to lease for the use of the above Office, I am now

authorised by my Department to negotiate with you as to the terms

on which a lease can be arranged. The tenancy can be made termin-

able at a short notice.

The site is valued at say Taels 25,000. I shall be

glad to know if you are prepared to pay the reduced rental of

Taels 100 per month, which sum is considered a most reasonable

rent charge for the property, and so offered to the Hong Kong Postal Agency.

I am etc..

(Sd.). William Cowan.
