Sterling scheme sanctioned in your Despatch No. 171 of the 13th June that if they accept Sterling salaries they should lose the privilege of counting the value of their quarters for pension purposes. The same remarks apply to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, the two Assistant Superintendents of Police and the Assistant Superintendent of Victoria Gaol.
The Captain Superintendent of Police has been promoted since the date of your Despatch under reference and should therefore lose the privilege in consideration of that promotion.
3. The only Officer who, in my opinion, has a valid claim to retain the privilege after acceptance of the Sterling scheme, is the Director of the Observatory who enjoys free quarters and whose Sterling salary has been fixed at approximately the equivalent of his dollar salary at 3/-. In promulgating the Sterling scheme I
4. propose to treat the posts mentioned above in the manner indicated.
