3. I have to add that the chief reason for granting this allowance was that I felt it highly desirable that the officers representing the three Eastern Colonies at the Coronation celebrations should be treated alike in the matter of pay and allowances.
4. I telegraphed to Sir W. J. Gascoigne on the 12th instant the fact that I regretted that it was too late to reconsider the question.
