Mr. Chamberlain,
Gentlemen.
I am directed by Mr Sec Ch to inform you that the C.A.C. of Hong Kong has reported that Mr C.F. O'Brien, who was recommended in your letter of the 8th of June 1901 for the post of Wardmaster in that Colony, has been dismissed owing to his insobriety and untrustworthiness", and to enquire whether you can recommend a candidate to fill the vacancy.
2. The engagement will be for three years in the first instance, with salary at the rate of £110 a year. If the services of the officer selected are satisfactory to the Govt, he will, at the end of three years, be placed on the pensionable establishment of the Colony with salary at the rate of £130 a year, rising after three years to £150 a year.
3. He will be provided with a second-class passage to the Colony and with a return passage to this country if his services are not retained after three years.
