Closure
In continuation of my Despatch No.72 of the 28th February last, I have the honour to transmit for your information the enclosed copy of a further report by the Director of Public Works, in which he gives a detailed account of the steps taken to supplement the supply of water during the long drought in the Spring of this year.
2. In connection with this subject, I hope shortly to be in a position to transmit to you an Ordinance which deals with the water question in Hongkong, and which will, it is hoped, go far towards removing any fear in the immediate future of the results of drought. The Bill, to which I refer, aims at the economisation of the distribution of water and the prevention of waste.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
M. Gascoigne
Major-General,
Administering the Government.
