I should have thought that at least Lance-Sergeant Worth have found a friend for the port, which requires exceptionally trustworthy officers.
But the fact that Constable Hudson is only seconded will make it necessary.

I have the honour to inform you that Mr. Lee, the Officer who held the post of Inspector under the Women and Girls' Protection Ordinances in the Registrar-General's Department, resigned his post on the 31st March last.
2. As regards the appointment of a successor, the Registrar-General reported before he went on leave of absence to England, that in his opinion the salary offered ought to be such as would induce a good Police Officer to accept the post, which is a responsible one and offers great temptations.
It was, therefore, recommended by him that the pay should be fixed at $80 a month rising to $120 in five years, and that an allowance of $30 a month for house-rent, and $10 a month for fuel and light, should also be granted, and that the Officer selected should retain all the privileges of a member of the Police Force from which he would only be seconded to the Registrar-General's Department.
It must be remembered that Police Officers enjoy free quarters, fuel and light. Mr. Brewin's recommendation was approved, it being recognised that, by this arrangement, an Officer in whom the Registrar-General could repose some confidence, would be best procurable.
