With regard to (41), this is partly attributable to some slips of the rock which were apparently solidly bedded in the ground where the road was in cutting and partly to the late payment last year of a sum for the construction of a portion of "the road adjoining Tai Po Road near Tai Wo Estate", which was to be carried out by contract. As the portion of road referred to was not completed, the money could not be paid out accordingly at the end of the year.

With regard to item (8), it was originally contemplated to construct a new shed upon the vacant land adjoining the Marine Depot, but was afterwards decided to provide the additional accommodation required by putting an upper storey on the existing sheds in the Ship and Swine Dépôt. This, though somewhat expensive in first cost, is more convenient in every respect for the future administration of the depôts and leaves the originally intended site vacant for extensions of the Battle Depot which are already necessary.

Provision (y) is to cover the excess of the contract obtained for the work above the estimated cost.
