With reference to the expenditure incurred this year re Public Works Extraordinary the principal part of it has connection with Contracts entered into & works undertaken before last year.
The notable exception is the Kowloon Waterworks for which the sanction of the S. of S. was specially obtained which is a work of the most pressing necessity.
Contracts let for Kowloon Waterworks are. Construction of Reservoirs, $160 Laying main $14,036. In addition to which the pipes from England arrived to the work represent a sum of $...000
It will be seen that nearly the whole of them are for works which are considered of great importance from a military point of view. Excluding those sanctioned by the S. of S., the total amount is only $40,700.
