further gift promised to the Colony by Sir C. P. Chater, and

of that also promised by Mr. J. J. Bell-Irving, who, as you are

already aware, have obtained the permission of the King and

the Prince of Wales to present to the Colony statues of His

Majesty and of His Royal Highness. The generosity of these

gentlemen, who both requested me not to inform the public of

their proposed gifts until they had left the Colony, has been

highly appreciated.
