Sir,
The late Postmaster-General, Captain Hastings, having been now dead within one day of 5 months, since which time I have been acting on half pay, and no appointment having been made of a successor to Captain Hastings, I beg leave most respectfully to ask that I may be allowed to draw the full pay of Postmaster-General from the date of my appointment to act, viz:- from the 23rd January last.
I am aware that the privilege of drawing full pay while acting in another Office has been allowed to other Officers in the past as well as in a recent case of an Officer serving under this Government, and I would most earnestly submit that taking into consideration also the fact that I have been carrying on the Department without an Assistant Postmaster-General, I may with all fairness claim to be justified in asking that this application may be favourably entertained and be allowed.
The Honourable
B. H. May, C.M.G.,
Colonial Secretary.
I have etc...
(Sd.) B. H. Cornwall Lewis, Acting Postmaster-General.
