With reference to my Despatch No. 189 of the 9th ultimo, I have now the honour to transmit for your consideration the enclosed copies of two Reports from the Director of Public Works in which he endorses the recommendations for the increases in the Staff of the Public Works Department recommended by the Commission recently appointed to enquire into the Public Works Department whose report was forwarded in the Despatch above referred to.

2. With regard to Mr. Chatham's recommendation of Mr. J. F. Boulton for the post of Assistant Director of Public Works, I am of opinion that Mr. Boulton is the best local candidate and I am now appointing him to act in the post in order to relieve the Director of Public Works of the great pressure of work upon him. Mr. Boulton will remain in charge of the Praya Reclamation Works till they are completed and the accounts closed, half his salary being charged to the Praya Reclamation Accounts and the other half being paid out of the Vote for the Assistant Director of Public Works' salary.
3. I also support the recommendation for an additional Executive Engineer for the supervision of Extraordinary Public Works and I recommend Mr. Fisher for the post.
