Method of
(1:2500). The scale at first adopted was 16 inches to one mile, – so small as to render the maps almost a failure for the purpose they are intended to serve. Some have formed that a considerable area has been mapped on this scale would recommend that before the survey party is disbanded, it should be re-done on the 32-inch scale. In my opinion the latter scale is somewhat too small, considering the great subdivision of the land.
The method used is that adopted by the Indian Revenue Survey Department. The various fields are traversed with a chain, and the traverse is then plotted on a drawing board, which the survey thanks with china, this is doubtless a rapid and economical method of surveying; accurate enough for the primary object of this work.
