I am glad to be able to add that according to Mr. Newland's estimate the cost of the proposed re-survey will be more than covered by the amount originally estimated for the completion of the survey. The total expenditure to the 31st May has been $104,765, and Mr. Newland estimates the further expenditure at $73,566. The total cost will thus be $178,351, whereas the total estimated cost as stated in this year's Estimates was $212,000. Mr. Newland's estimate includes everything except the cost of the publication of the map.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
P.y. Gassigne
Major-General,
Administering the Government.
