were wanted to examine rat and generally. After failing to obtain help from India, eight "English-speaking" Japanese were obtained, at an average salary (including allowance) of $202.5 per month, with passage and $100 for outfit under temporary agreement. When they came, it was found that they did not know either English or Chinese, or not as much as expected. They were got rid of and the remainder are employed solely for rat examination till the end of the season when it is hoped that their services will no longer be required.
