I concur in the opinion strongly expressed by Mr. Irving that the Education Department should secure the services of Mr. Young, and I have sanctioned his engagement as Senior Master of District Schools on nine months' probation at a salary of $150 a month. Should Mr. Young continue to give satisfaction I have the honour to enquire whether at the end of his period of probation you would be prepared to approve of his appointment to the fixed establishment at a salary of $1,800 rising to $2,400 per annum.
