I have very onerous and responsible duties, I am not placed on the same footing as regards salary, as clerks of about corresponding rank in the Colonial Secretary's Office. Even the 5th Clerk in that department is placed in a better pecuniary position than I am, and my post of 3rd Clerkship in this office is placed on a level with the 5th and 7th Clerkships in the Colonial Secretary's Office, in the classification.

11. I beg also to point out that the Accountant in the General Post Office is placed in Class II with a salary of $130 rising to $200 per mensem, and the Honourable F. H. May, in a minute published in the Gazette, stated that for an accountant he considered that salary by no means too high. Though I am practically an accountant, and in a more important department, I am placed two classes below with a material difference of $75 per month between the maximum salaries.

12. In view of these facts, I beg respectfully to solicit your kind support to my application that I may be placed in Class III, for which I shall be under a deep debt of gratitude to you.

I have etc.,

(sgd.) J. Pestonjee.
