Sir,

Government House, 02,
Hongkong, 1st May, 1902.

I have the honour to transmit for your
favourable consideration the enclosed copy of a letter from
the Chief Justice in which he recommends the nomination of Mr.
E. H. Sharp as King's Counsel in this Colony.
2.
As stated in paragraph 5 of Mr. Goodman's
letter, there is not at present any King's Counsel in Hongkong,
and I have every reason to believe that Mr. Sharp's nomination
would be popular among the Barristers of the Colony and that
he would be a most suitable successor to those who have received
the same high honour during the past few years.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
M.J. Gascoigne
Major-General,
Administering the Government.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.,
