Government House,

Hongkong, 28th April, 1902.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 75 of March 13th, transmitting a

copy of a letter addressed by Mr. Lucas to Mr. T. E. Young

relative to the Widows and Orphans' Pension Fund.

2.

In reply to paragraph 3 of that letter,

I have the honour to inform you that it has not been the

general practice in this Colony to call upon candidates locally selected for employment in the Civil Service to present

themselves for Medical Examination in connection with the

Widows and Orphans' Fund, but that I have now caused a Notification to be addressed to Heads of Departments instructing them

in future to call upon all successful candidates to present

themselves to the Principal Civil Medical Officer for Medical

Examination.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Major-General,

Administering the Government.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
