I have the honour to forward herewith, for transmission to the Crown Agents, an Estimate in triplicate for a set of pumping engines to be erected at Wai Shan Lock, capable of raising 14 million gallons of water per day and discharging it into the tunnel which conveys water from the existing reservoir to the filter beds at Ha Wan. Captain Craig is reporting on this subject.

I specially consider that the enclosed document should be sent home at once, as it will occupy a period of 12 months or 2 years to obtain a working order for the pumping machinery, &c.

It is doubtless within your recollection that works amounting to a sum of $200,000 have been struck out of this year's Estimates with a view to providing for others recommended by the Sanitary Experts and I presume that The Honourable Colonial Secretary...
