I have the honour to ack: the receipt of yt
your despatch No 134 of the 8th ultimo on
the subject of the proposal of Messrs
Butterfield and Swire that Hong Kong Inland
Lot No 6 should be regarded as an ex-
tension of Marine Lot No 3 and a lease for
999 years should be granted in respect of
the amalgamated Lots.
2. In view of the special circumstances of
the case I concur in your view that this
request may be complied with, the lease and
the period of ten years within which the
Dock is to be constructed to date from the
18th of April 1900. I do not however consider
it to be possible to include in the lease,
as you suggest, a provision for the period-
ical revision of the Crown Rent. Inland Lot
No 6 cannot be regarded otherwise than as an
extension of Marine Lot 3 and as no such
