Hongkong, 8th April, 1902.
Admy
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 38 of the 31st January, and in reply to inform you that I have no objection to the proposal that Messrs. Butterfield and Swire should be granted a 999 years' lease of Quarry Bay Marine Lot No. 3 on condition that they construct a Dock on that site, and that they will construct two large Patent slips instead of a Dock on Marine Lot No. 2, Extension.
2. I have caused these terms to be communicated to Messrs. Butterfield and Swire, who state that they have much pleasure in agreeing to the conditions named.
3. I have now the honour to transmit for your consideration the enclosed copy of a further letter from Messrs. Butterfield and Swire in which they ask the Government either to allow Inland Lot No. 6 to be treated as an extension of Marine Lot No. 3, or to grant them a lease of that lot for 999 years.
Enclosure 1.
March, 1902
4. With regard to this application, I may point out that the terms upon which the two lots (Quarry Bay Marine Lot No. 3 and Quarry Bay Inland Lot No. 6) were sold,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN,
M.P.,
