I have the honour to report that all the seconded Marines now serving in this force desire to obtain their discharges from the Marines. I attach their letter to me. They do not state any particular reason for their wish. Personally, I think they will take more interest and pride in their Police work if their other connections are definitely severed. I should also have a stronger hold over those (I am glad to say few) of them whose conduct is not altogether satisfactory, as if dismissed they would not have their old corps to fall back on for a living. I therefore hope that His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government will see his way to strongly recommend that their request be granted. No objection was made in the case of the six men transferred to the Gaol Service last year.
