A temporary main of 18 inches diameter has been laid, which will deliver the water, as it is supposed, to all the tanks. Various large buckets have been placed at various points, from which the water will be drawn into tanks through large taps, of which there will be one at each tank.
The services of the tug "Gamma" built for the Reclamation Works, are available and will be used for towing lighters to and fro. It is anticipated that the scheme will be in working order by the end of March, and that each lighter will make a round trip daily, thus providing at least 250,000 gallons per day or 5 gallons per head for the population to be served.
In addition to the above, arrangements have been made to obtain a supply for the city from a reservoir belonging to Messrs Butterfield and Swire, which is situated on the hills between the city and Quarry Bay. The quantity available from this source is 15,000 gallons.
