A channel has been cut at Jean Wan, contouring the ground, at such an elevation to convey gravitation to a water shoot from which large lighters can be conveniently filled at all times. A mill-race and dam have been utilized, the owner will be compensated for interference caused with his business.

Three large lighters, each capable of about 100,000 gallons, have been built; being adapted for the conveyance of water in bulk, these lighters will be filled from the shoot and towed to the places referred to where their contents will be pumped out by centrifugal brick pumps, also constructed for the purpose along the wall.
