informed, at an early date, what steps it is proposed to take to prevent the recurrence of such accidents and whether your legal advisers consider that the existing law should be strengthened so as to increase the penalties provided for offences against the building regulations.

I enclose a copy of a question in the House of Commons, of which notice has been given for the 8th instant concerning this regrettable incident, together with a copy of the reply which I propose to give to the question; and I request you to inform me whether any compensation has been paid to the families or dependents of the persons killed in the accident.
