13 March 1902.

I am directed by Mr Sec: Cham: to

inform you that a letter has been received

from Professor W. J. Simpson, who is

conducting an investigation into the

causes of the prevalence of Bubonic

Plague at Hong Kong, which contains

the following passage:

"It would be much more satisfactory if it could be arranged for me

to remain here until July or August when the epidemic

is usually over. I could not however, do this

unless the Colonial Office approached the Council

of King's College London, through the

Principal and obtained their permission for

me to stay.

If they were willing to

permit me to remain without asking me to resign

my Professorship I shall be very happy to

finish the work begun."
