7. Keeping

in mind the small area of the Colony,

care should be taken not to unduly increase

the number of permanent and pensionable

Establishments.

I am therefore of the opinion that one additional Assistant will be sufficient.

8.

I see no necessity for

the appointment of a Land Surveyor from England.

Owing to the very limited area of the Colony, and the small lots put up for sale, surveys are of the simplest nature.

The Department has in Mr B.W. Grey, a fully qualified Officer as the work of Land Surveyor, with Mr Jacob as assistant.

Mr Grey was trained in the Ceylon Survey Department and holds a license, obtained after examination by the Surveyor General of that Colony, to practice as a Land Surveyor.

9. The Government having gone to the great expense of a complete cadastral survey
