If necessary to be spared, for the purpose of reporting on the prevention of the recurring epidemics if bubonic plague in Hong Kong, I was directed by Mr. Secretary Chamberlain to request you to inform the Messrs. Brodnick, Managers of Sundry, that, as was expected, a recommendation has been received that this work should be undertaken by Professor Simpson.

That gentleman is to be allowed to visit Hong Kong, it is of the greatest importance that he should be there without delay in order that his advice may be obtained and acted upon before the time at which a recrudescence of plague may be expected.
