Sir,

retary

I have today examined Mr C. W. Durran, Sec-

to the Sanitary Board, Hongkong, and have

the honour to report that of late years he says he

has lost weight considerably and been subject to

dyspeptic attacks and a number of minor ailments

a statement which has been confirmed to me by Dr

Atkinson, Colonial Surgeon, Hongkong. His appear-

ance suggests premature senility and his ramulous

inconsequent conversation indicates, in my opinion,

a degree of mental debility

These are conditions not likely to be im-

proved by extension of leave and I do not consider

that he will be fit for his duties even after six

months longer in England.

I am,

Sir,

499

Your obedient Servant,

Falchulauser.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office, London.
