professionally to deal with the transport by water of the corpses. In view therefore of the fact that hitherto my early professional training has not in any way circumscribed my colonial service to any particular line or department but rather I venture to hope been a convenience to the Governments I have served, I earnestly submit that if in face of the peculiar conditions of the eastern colonies I cannot be placed on the same footing as regards official position as the majority of the officers in those colonies, I may at least receive such personal allowance as not to further emphasize the distinction socially.

7. In 1891, on the plea of being the holder of a professional appointment I was not granted the 35% increase given to other officers on account of the depreciation of silver, The recent increase however has been granted owing to the greatly enhanced cost of living in the Colony, and which is still increasing most painfully.

In view therefore of these facts and those set forth in my application for transfer dated 10th May last, I earnestly hope my petition may be favourably considered and such relief afforded me as may enable me to discharge my duties unharassed by monetary troubles.
