As to my qualifications I can only say that I was for six years Correspondence Clerk in the Police Department, Accountant for thirteen, and Paymaster for six years in the same Department, while for the last 32 years I was Secretary to the Sanitary Board,

so I may say my experience of Government Service has been varied, and that Clerical work I would gladly undertake any duties of a similar nature which might be offered.

I have a very good knowledge of Cantonese (colloquial), having often acted as Interpreter in the Colony, and I have also during my residence gained a great insight into Chinese Manners and modes and customs, which might prove useful upon occasions.

Should nothing offer at the present moment, I would respectfully ask that my name be placed on record as I believe that my experience in Government would render my services of greater advantages than those of one who has not.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most Obedient Servant,

Chan Bagan
