Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter (39014/01) transmitting for my information a copy of the Acting Superintendent's Report on the Economic plants which have been obtained by the Acting Superintendent of the Botanical and Afforestation Department of Hong Kong for experimental planting in the New Territory.

2. It is only by trial that the plants best suited for cultural enterprise in the locality can be ascertained. The work done appears to me highly creditable to Mr. Tutcher.

3. I observe with satisfaction that the planting of the Camphor tree has been taken in hand. If, as seems probable, camphor continues to be employed in the manufacture of celluloid, the planting of the tree should be fairly profitable.
